Gossip: Gaya to Chelsea or Man City

This might be the worst gossip column in living memory. We have Chelsea wanting Jose Gaya, Man United eyeing Ennis and a true price for Memphis Depay… CHELSEA AND CITY WANT GAYA We’re embarrassed that desperation is seeing us turn to Fichajes.net – the Metro’s Spanish cousin – but desperate times call for desperate gossip about Spanish left-backs that we first encountered roughly 17 seconds ago. Jose Gaya is the man and he is a 20-year-old left-back who is apparently on the radars of both Chelsea and Manchester City (and Real Madrid). According to the algorithms at transfermarkt.com, Gaya is worth £14m, which is rather a lot for a player yet to be capped by his country. He has recently signed a new Valencia contract, mind. MAN UNITED EYE ENNIS Not Jessica Ennis, unfortunately, but Niall Ennis, a 16-year-old at Wolves. Ennis, who made his debut for Wolves’ Under-21 team as a 15-year-old last season, is said to have attracted the attention of a number of top Premier League sides after impressing for club and country in recent months. The likes of Manchester City and Chelsea are reported to have been tracking a player that scored his first goal for England Under-17s earlier this month, but United are apparently set to make an offer in excess of £1million to win the race.

Hull City moved four points clear of the relegation zone with a win which leaves Liverpool almost certain to miss out on Champions League qualification.

Michael Dawson's well-timed run and header before half-time deservedly secured the points which moved the Tigers above Aston Villa in to 15th.

Jordan Henderson threatened to level but saw a volley saved after the break.

The Reds failed to create a clear opening and are now seven points behind fourth-placed Manchester United.

With just 12 points to play for, a second successive season in Europe's elite competition is now surely beyond Brendan Rodgers' side and a return of just four points from a possible 15 underlines the stuttering end to their season.

Hull, by contrast, have found solidity at the right time, earning back-to-back clean sheets in the Premier League for the first time since October 2013 as they put some daylight between themselves and Sunderland in 18th.

Indeed, another win for Steve Bruce's side would equal their best Premier League points return of 37 and looks likely to be enough to secure another top-flight campaign as the sides around them find wins hard to come by.

Bruce's side were comfortable throughout and though the visitors had 12 shots on goal, few were of serious threat and the sight of Mario Balotelli ambling off to be replaced after 65 minutes spoke volumes of Liverpool's lack of cutting edge.

The Italian had just 22 touches and with no Steven Gerrard in the squad and Raheem Sterling barely in the game, only flourishes from the busy Philippe Coutinho threatened to change the outcome.

The Brazilian drew a smart save from Steve Harper in the opening period but Hull created better chances and were prevented a certain goal when Glen Johnson cleared off the line with Sone Aluko ready to tap home.

Liverpool have managed to keep 14 clean sheets this season, second only to Chelsea, and their defenders may point the finger at Balotelli who played Dawson onside for his first goal since New Year's Day 2013.

Three home players appeared offside in the build-up to the goal but Dawson's run was perfect and he guided a smart header home.

Liverpool's away end had patches of empty seats with some fans protesting against Premier League ticket prices and Rodgers' players could not reward those in attendance, though Henderson's volley from Coutinho's pass did work Harper.

Hull closed out just a second win in 20 attempts over Liverpool - a timely victory which poses serious questions of those around them at the bottom.

Nico Rosberg 'very worried' by Ferrari's race pace in Bahrain

Practice pacesetter Nico Rosberg has described Ferrari’s long-run pace as “very worrying” ahead of a Bahrain GP which appears set to pitch Mercedes into another duel with their growing rivals.

After a less than representative Practice One at Sakhir which took place four hours before the evening start time for Sunday’s race – running subsequently labelled “useless” by Rosberg – Mercedes and Ferrari locked horns in the more relevant second session with intriguing results.

As has been the case all season, the W06 held a clear edge over a single fast lap – to the tune of half a second in P2 – but the impressive, light-on-its-tyres SF15-T closed right in on the race simulations and appeared to even be quicker on the softer of the two compounds.

That form certainly caught Rosberg’s eye, who afterwards highlighted the race pace of the Ferrari as clearly being a threat to Mercedes ahead of a race in which he is aiming to beat team-mate Lewis Hamilton for the first time this season.

"Confidence is good, it was a good day today. Of course lunchtime was a bit useless because it is so hot and the race is in the evening so we don't learn much,” he told Sky Sports F1.

“That is why this evening was very, very valuable and important to do many laps.

“So it has been good, but the pace of the Ferraris is very worrying. In qualifying we are again much quicker, but in the race they are quick."

Although the evening race means track temperatures will be cooler than the sweltering lunchtime highs routinely experienced in the desert, and therefore not anywhere near as hot as in Malaysia last month when Ferrari beat Mercedes, Rosberg hints he thinks the SF15-T has the fundamental race pace to challenge himself and Hamilton anyway.

“Tyre-wise it’s pretty straightforward. Both tyres are quite robust and so that’s not a very interesting part of it this weekend. It’s just going to be the outright pace which is important,” the German driver added.

On the headline P2 timesheet, Rosberg’s team-mate and championship leader Hamilton, meanwhile, wound up a tenth of a second shy of the sister Mercedes. The Briton, however, was generally confident with his W06 after an error on his decisive lap cost him time.

"I think I locked-up into Turn Eight so lost a bit of time and there is one area which I need to work on to pick up more time, but generally the middle sector was weak,” Hamilton told Sky F1.

QPR head coach Chris Ramsey hopeful of survival after Aston Villa draw

QPR head coach Chris Ramsey says his side still believe they can avoid the drop following a dramatic 3-3 draw at Aston Villa.

After Matt Phillips put QPR ahead, a Christian Benteke brace gave Villa control, only for second-half goals from Clint Hill and Charlie Austin to leave QPR on the brink of a win that would have taken them out of the bottom three at their opponents' expense.

But Benteke completed his treble with an inch-perfect free-kick to leave Rangers in the relegation zone, but within two points of 17th-placed Hull.

"The point is better for them," Ramsey said. "We would have loved to have won the game and been above the line and then it would have been everything to fight for, even though we're still in the battle - it would have made our life a lot easier."

West Brom midfielder Chris Brunt requests personal hearing over FA charge

West Brom midfielder Chris Brunt has requested a personal hearing after being charged by the FA.

The matter relates to Albion’s 2-0 defeat away to local rivals Aston Villa in an ill-tempered FA Cup quarter-final clash on March 7.

Brunt will continue to be available for selection by Baggies boss Tony Pulis until a date for the hearing is finalised.

The Northern Ireland international is alleged to have 'used abusive and/or insulting words and/or behaviour towards a match official, in or around the tunnel area after the end of the game at Villa Park'.

Both sides had a man sent off – Claudio Yacob for West Brom and substitute Jack Grealish for Villa – after they picked up two yellow cards in the game.

Some home fans ran onto the pitch during second half stoppage-time and a pitch invasion ensued following the final whistle
